The Lord's Table Testimony

My name is Christa and I have been set free from the bondage of gluttony!

I am 31 years old and have been in ministry with my husband for over ten years. During our 13 years of marriage, I have had two children and, even though my children are 10 and 11, up until I turned to Jesus through The Lord's Table course for help, even as little as one year ago, I was still carrying the weight I had gained from carrying my children, and then some.

"Most of my life was spent in bondage to gluttony. Even though I accepted Christ as my Savior when I was 12-years-old, overeating was an area I just couldn't seem to surrender to the Lord. Food was always my answer when I needed numbing from stress, needed comfort and acceptance, or when I was lonely or wanted to celebrate. To my shame, food was my master.

"Most of my adult life, I weighed over 300 lbs. with my top weight being 340 lbs. in 1996. I tried many kinds of diets including some Christian programs, but was never able to keep the weight off or to maintain any kind of control over what I ate.

I am 47 years old and have struggled with overeating and obesity since puberty. I have tried a variety of diets with limited success but more often than not I have just given in to my flesh by binge eating and secret eating. I can remember gorging until I hurt and crying out to God to help me as I unwrapped my next candy bar. Several years ago, He did convict me that my overeating was sin but that knowledge really only compounded my rebellion and closet eating.

You can learn a lot from the numbers below: my starting and ending weights. For instance, the "Beginning Weight" number, 405 lbs., you will not find on any "Suggested Height/Weight" charts (even for my height of 6'5")! You could take one look at that number and know without a doubt that I had a serious problem.

Here is what our recent graduates are saying...

Nicole "I became a Christian when I was five, having grown up in a Christian home. When I was in seventh grade, I joined a synchronized swimming team and competed for seven years, including one year in college. Through being involved in this sport I become very conscious about body image and weight issues. After having to give up the sport when I transferred schools, I was scared of gaining weight and not being thin anymore. So, by my third year of college, I began to starve myself. That is when I was introduced to Setting Captives Free and the Lordís Table course. Through this course, I was able to bring my focus back to God and also overcome my struggles with not wanting to eat."

Lynda Braun's student Glenna, "To God be all the glory, honor and praise for my 17 lb. weight loss, (I've dropped a size in my jeans!) my growth in self-control and improvement in my vocal technique. The Bible study is a sometimes painful, truth-telling study that would be excellent as a stand-alone study. The eating plan is tailor-made for me - who hates calorie, point, fat gram, or carb counting and is designed to nurture self-control which is my underlying issue. The website is well designed, straightforward and user friendly and I tell my story to anyone who will listen. Thank you God for Mike Cleveland and all the SCF staff. I hope to someday meet you all -- if not in this life, certainly in the one to come!!!

Gail Miller's student, Barbara, "Thanks to the powerful early lessons about feeding on Christ and doing everything to His glory, however, my soul was so deeply touched that, by grace, I came to see that through God's unimaginable grace I could change how I eat."

Hazel Walton's student, Kimberly had a son to die at Thanksgiving and wrote, "He has revealed to me that through my son's death He has led me to His Son who died for me. He has opened my eyes and heart and has set me free with the help and instruction of this course. I now turn to Jesus for everything and no longer need to turn to food. Praise God!"
