Setting Captives Free Receives 100,000th Member Enrollment

MEDINA, Ohio - Setting Captives Free recently announced the enrollment of its 100,000th student.

Mike Cleveland, founder of Setting Captives Free, says the non-profit ministry exists "to offer Christ-centered hope and freedom to those in the grip of sin through accountability to Bible-based truth resulting in the true enjoyment of life in and for the glory of God.

"Our objective at Setting Captives Free is to see sin captives released for God’s glory and to see God’s name and word exalted above all things. God’s grace is indeed stronger than the pull of sin," Cleveland said.

The ministry of Setting Captives Free began in July 2000. Current courses available online at the ministry’s website include "The Lord’s Table", a Biblical approach to weight loss; "The Way of Purity", overcoming pornography and sexual impurity; "New Wine", overcoming drunkenness and drug addiction; "Door of Hope", overcoming homosexuality; "Breath of Life", for freedom from smoking; "A United Front", a Biblical study and encouragement for spouses; "Purity Challenge", equipping teens for purity; and "Higher Stakes", freedom from gambling.

Additional course offerings include "The Cross: Finding Life in Jesus’ Death", designed for the unbeliever or as a follow-up to other courses; "The Philemon Study", a verse-by-verse study that tells the good news in story form; "Ruth: Redemption Illustrated", a verse-by-verse study of the book of Ruth; and "Onward Christian Soldiers", which examines in detail the resources God has given us to fight successfully against sin.

All basic courses are available free of charge. Each student is matched with a mentor whose goal is to help the student profit from and apply the Bible to his or her life, and to pray for each student on a daily basis. The mentor stays in contact with the student at least weekly throughout the 30- or 60-day course. Some of the courses are also available in workbook form.

The ministry has been working with translators to translate the courses into several languages. Some courses are currently offered in English, Spanish, Russian and French.
